Gabriela Hearst To Receive Fashion Visionary Award

“Honest luxury” is how Gabriela Hearst describes her approach to design. The New York-based creative, renowned for her chic, impeccably crafted clothes, is held in high regard for her uncompromising ethical values, and her commitment to sustainability is now being celebrated by the Pratt Institute, which will be presenting her with this year’s Fashion Visionary award.

As the recipient of the annual award, Gabriela will be the guest of honor at the Pratt Institute’s annual fashion show, where senior students of the Department of Fashion showcase their final collections. To be staged at New York’s Spring Studios on 3rd May, the editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar, Glenda Bailey, will present the prestigious award.

“Fashion has the power to make a difference and Ms. Hearst is a great example of that,” said Jennifer Minniti, chair of Pratt’s Fashion Department. “Her commitment to sustainability, quality and social activism through her brand is inspiring and serves as a powerful message for our students as they begin their careers.”

Gabriela will join fellow designers Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, of Monse and Oscar de la Renta, Francisco Costa and Thom Browne, as well as former Costume Institute curator Harold Koda who are among the select group of industry professional to have received the award.
