Following the power blackouts in Venezuela, which began last Thursday and were imposed by the government making life even more impossible for Venezuelans, Carmen took to Instagram to help spread awareness about the situation. Especially given that many people are not aware about the gravity of what is happening, or are still supporting Nicolas Maduro. With no power, food is spoiling, business is futile and the Venezuelan people cannot even use their phones for help or let us know what is going on.

Many responded to Carmen’s plea for us all to join forces to create international pressure, and for this she gives a big thanks:

“Please people, do keep posting photos about this situation in Venezuela. Many of you have reposted my photo and tagged me - thank you! I spent 48 hours thanking many of you! Every day I wake up and see more posts about Venezuela, which is great support and news for my country - this is what we need. Please contribute your voices. I am traveling and will be silent for 11 hours. If I don’t thank you personally, please don’t be offended! I hope there is more humanity than inhumanity; it is evident that there are more people in the fashion industry that care about human rights, and that wins over indifference. I am proud of my industry for the support! All creatives, bloggers, influencers, photographers, journalists and editors posting on their stories has made me cry of joy for Venezuela and the support you all have given. I have not deleted some minor suppression and supporters of Maduro because we need freedom of speech. We as individuals need  exchange ideas with them, but I decide to ignore them as they are insignificant and we need to forgive the ignorant. We are not supporting capitalism, we are supporting democracy and social responsibility. Like someone I know and love says:"I support social capitalism", meaning we all need to be sustainable and have all rights to equally succeed and be inclusive. I have no idea how life would be today without internet or without social media, because this has created a new economy, new jobs and new opportunities for all. Someone who has followers has a great tool in their hands to use for good. The power is in your hands! Inform yourself, be inclusive, open your mind and your heart to all causes. My country needs light, but we all need light. We all need to wake up and step inside everyone's shoes! Lastly, no need to compare my country yet with Syria! It's horrible what is happening to us, but what happened in Syria was one of the biggest historic horrors of 21st century! In any case, we need to avoid more tyrants, the power is in our hands.”
